Meet Axel – The American Bulldog

This week on the blog my dogs are making their official introductions. If you missed Dozer’s, click here to see his. Today is Axel’s turn in the spotlight and what better day than his birthday for him to make his blog debut? Today he turns 4! It’s hard to believe we have already had him that long and I definitely miss his puppy days when he actually fit in your lap. These days he definitely still gets in your lap…he just takes up a lot more room haha. He has his own hashtag on instagram: #AxelTheAmericanBulldog so be sure to check that out for recent pictures.

We got Axel shortly after getting back from our honey moon. We knew we wanted to get a play mate for Dozer and had tried a couple of other dogs before we found a perfect match for him. Justin found a family who lived right down the road from where I ride who just had a litter of American Bulldog puppies and there were only a few still available. After seeing pictures of the puppies online, we knew the little cutie we saw sleeping in a ball cap in the pictures would be a perfect fit. As soon as I got home from work, we drove out to meet the family and the puppies.

The litter was born on St. Patrick’s Day and the family had given all of the puppies temporary Irish names. Axel’s first name was Spartacus (didn’t think that was Irish…but whatever) haha! Once we got him home, we were anxious to see what Dozer would think of his new little brother. At first he was definitely a little jealous, but that didn’t last long at all. They’ve been inseparable ever since!

Although Axel is bigger in size, he is also a bigger baby. He is definitely our sensitive one, who will look you in the eye to communicate with you and show emotion more than any other dog I’ve met. His favorite place to be is snuggled up with you on the couch and he’s the first to give you kisses. He also has the biggest smile when you get home and can’t even control it because of his excitement, he curls up his lips so you can see his front teeth, it is the cutest thing ever!

Here are some of my favorite pictures from the time we got him until now. Follow along on instagram to see recent pictures of Dozer and Axel or search their hashtag: #DozerandAxel

I love his little dipstick tail

Dozer was such a good big brother right off the bat.

One of my all time favorites!!

He’s always got a smile 🙂

As you can see, Axel is now bigger than his older brother.
